New collaboration will provide healthcare providers at VA medical centers with access to advanced allograft tissues that can save and heal lives
EDISON, N.J. (November 1, 2018) — MTF Biologics, the world’s largest tissue bank, and Academy Medical, a certified Service-Disabled, Veteran-Owned Small Business (SDVOSB) that specializes in providing medical products, tissues and devices to government agencies, have joined forces to bring advanced human allograft tissues to the Department of Veteran’s Affairs (VA) medical centers across the country. MTF Biologics has joined Academy Medical’s supplier network, ensuring that MTF Biologics’ portfolio of tissue innovations, used to treat a variety of acute and chronic wounds, orthopedic conditions, and plastic and reconstructive surgery needs, are available to healthcare providers serving veterans at VA facilities.
As a result of this partnership with Academy Medical, MTF Biologics tissues have been added to Academy Medical’s Strategic Acquisition Center (SAC) Biologics and Biological Implants Contract and their National Acquisition Center (NAC) Federal Supply Schedule (FSS) contract for the Department of Veterans Affairs. Together, Academy Medical and MTF Biologics now offer the broadest portfolio of bone, dermis, placenta and other tissues to address the needs of our veterans and military personnel.
“Academy Medical has a great track record of connecting government healthcare providers with medical innovations,” said Thomas Shaffer, Executive Vice President of Global Sales and Marketing at MTF Biologics. “We are excited to partner with the Academy Medical team to bring innovations in tissue transplantation to our nation’s veterans. Our organizations share a commitment to ensuring that physicians have access to the medical advances, tools and technologies they need to meet the needs of their patients. This partnership achieves this commitment while also furthering MTF Biologics’ Mission of saving and healing lives.”
Founded by surgeons in 1987, MTF Biologics is a 501 (c) 3 non-profit organization that, for three decades, has served as the nation’s leading tissue bank dedicated to providing high-quality and cost-effective allografts for clinical use. It has provided more than 8 million allografts to facilities and physicians for transplantation.
“MTF Biologics is known for its dedication to research and development and for creating safe, high-quality, tissue grafts to meet a variety of physician and patient needs,” said Dan Shaw, President and CEO of Academy Medical. “We are proud to work with an organization that is as committed as we are to improving care for those who have served this country. We are particularly excited to be able to offer healthcare providers access to MTF Biologics’ portfolio of wound healing innovations as acute and chronic wounds are an increasing concern in VA facilities nationwide.”
MTF Biologics’ tissue portfolio also offers a wide variety of solutions for major reconstructive surgical needs. MTF Biologics’ extensive portfolio includes but is not limited to: placental and dermal based allografts for wound care; general orthopedic tissue forms; bone void fillers; a viable cryopreserved cellular bone matrix; spinal tissue forms; sports medicine tissue forms; segmental and osteoarticular grafts; specialty matched grafts; acellular hydrated biologic mesh tissue forms; split thickness skin for burns; and a platelet-rich plasma (PRP) system.
